CBD for (Chronic) Pain
CBD is an effective way of relieving pain, as proven by various research papers. This is because of two reasons:
- In most cases, cannabidiol is proven to be a strong anti-inflammatory with neuroregenerative properties that actively help to restore damaged nerves. This makes it a great alternative for people who don’t want to use opioids and NSAIDs, which may be more effective pain-relievers but are highly addictive and can be dangerous when used continually.
- Aside from reducing pain at the source, CBD can also have a positive effect on the perception of pain. The body’s own cannabinoids (for example, anandamide and 2-AG) play a role in pain regulation and feelings of happiness. CBD delays the speed at which the body breaks these down - so the more of it you have in your bloodstream, the less pain you’ll experience.

FAQs about CBD for Pain Relief
Does CBD work as a painkiller?
CBD can help to reduce pain by promoting positive changes in the body through interacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD is a proven anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic. Some pain sufferers also find that it helps to reduce feelings of anxiety.
What CBD dosage is needed to treat pain?
It cannot be stressed enough that each case is different, and the right dosage can vary hugely from person to person. 40mg of CBD is enough for some chronic pain sufferers to feel the benefits when the pain is at its most severe. If that’s not enough, this could be increased to 45mg after 7 days. Depending on how your body is responding, in the second week this could be increased further to 50mg. Starting with a small dosage and then working your way up gradually is always recommended.
Is Full-Spectrum CBD best for treating pain?
Currently, there’s not enough research to know whether full-spectrum CBD is more effective at treating pain than standard CBD. But as it contains the same pain-relieving qualities and benefits from a stronger entourage effect, some users may well find it to be more effective for them.
Which way of taking CBD will help me feel its effects quickest?
Absorbing CBD drops under the tongue is generally believed to be the quickest way to feel its effects. When the active ingredients are digested, they lose some of their potency. Putting CBD drops under your tongue therefore preserves more of the key ingredients, meaning the effects can be felt quicker.
