Treating (Chronic) Pain with CBD
Various research papers have now proven the effect that CBD can have on pain, thanks to two different approaches.
- In the majority of cases, cannabidiol is proven to be a strong anti-inflammatory and has neuroregenerative properties that actively help to decrease the level of inflammation and restore damaged nerves. For many people, it is a great alternative to opioids and NSAIDs which may be more effective in reducing pain but are very addictive and can potentially damage the body further with continued use.
- CBD can also have a positive effect on the perception of pain too. It delays the speed at which the body breaks down some of the body’s cannabinoids like anandamide and 2-AG. These substances are partly responsible for the feeling of happiness, but also regulate your pain. Theoretically, the more of it you have in your bloodstream, the less pain you’ll experience.

CBD for Pain Relief - FAQs
Can CBD be used as a painkiller?
CBD can potentially work to reduce pain by working with a person’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) to promote a range of positive changes within the body. CBD is proven to be an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic, and can also help to reduce anxiety in some pain sufferers.
What dosage of CBD should I take to treat pain?
Although it cannot be stressed enough that each case is different, chronic pain sufferers may feel the benefits of a 40mg dosage on days when pain is severe. After 7 days, this could be increased to 45mg, and then 50mg in the second week depending on how your body is responding. It’s always best to start with smaller dosages and then work up little by little.
Is Full-Spectrum CBD better to treat pain?
There is little research to show that full-spectrum CBD is more effective at treating pain than standard CBD products. However, it still contains the same pain-relieving qualities, as well as additional ingredients that can create a stronger entourage effect.
What is the fastest way to feel the effects of CBD?
CBD drops that are absorbed under the tongue are thought to be the most effective way of taking CBD. This is because more of the active ingredients are preserved this way, as opposed to when they are digested, which means the effects can be felt more quickly.
