When first dosing cats with CBD oil, it is always advised to start low and measure the effects over a period of ten days before increasing the dosage. Starting low reduces the chances of any potential side effects which may cancel out the positive effects of the CBD oil.

To start, we would recommend one drop (+1 mg) of DNH’s CBD oil for cats per 5 kg of your pet’s body weight, administered twice daily. The average weight of a domestic cat is between 4 - 5 kg, therefore, 1 drop, two times a day would be the correct amount for most cats.

Cats can handle and process CBD and vegetal cannabinoids in general but this does not mean all CBD oil is safe for cats. Research shows that some CBD oil contains varieties of terpenes that are very toxic to cats. These terpenes are the aromatic part of the hemp extract and support the entourage effect, however, some are only safe for human consumption. In some cases, some CBD oils designed for humans could kill a cat.

This is why our hemp oil for cats is completely terpene-free. Making the product safe to use for your cat and other pets that might not handle terpenes as well as humans. You should also be very careful with home-brews and THC-rich hemp oils, as too much of these substances can cause discomfort for your cat

Our expertly designed CBD oil for pets is certainly not lethal or dangerous for cats. However, higher doses may produce some uncomfortable side effects that you should be aware of.

CBD oil could make your cat drowsy, and sleepy, or reduce its reaction time. Of course, when a human takes a dose of CBD, we might expect some drowsiness but a cat will have no idea where this feeling is coming from, potentially causing confusion and distress.

This is why DNH always advises starting with a low dose to let your cat adjust to the effects of CBD and build up a tolerance.
