The hemp plant is home to hundreds of active ingredients which could potentially have a positive impact on your health. While many people are aware of the benefits provided by substances such as CBD and CBG - there are many other cannabinoids which could help improve your health and well-being, too. One of the cannabinoids worth looking into as well, is Cannabidiolic-acid (CBDA). But what exactly is CBD-A and what are the benefits of the main ingredient in our CBD-A oil?
What is Cannabidiolic-acid (CBD-A)?
Cannabidiolic-acid (CBD-A) is the acidic form of Cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid you might be more familiar with. In other words, CBD-A is the so-called precursor of CBD; the main ingredient of our regular CBD oil. Consequently, this means CBD-A is extracted from fresh and unprocessed hemp extracts, kept as RAW as can be. Because when this cannabinoid is processed and exposed to certain external environmental influences, it might lose its ‘acidic’ form and transform into CBD.
Due to CBD’s popularity and possible health benefits, it’s precursor CBD-A was long forgotten. But with a growing interest in raw foods, juices and unprocessed natural supplements; we’ve discovered that raw CBD-A oil fits this need perfectly. Offering a raw, fresh and organically balanced hemp supplement of the highest possible quality. All the while catering to the global trend of raw and unprocessed foods.
Whereas CBD-A offers a lot of the same characteristics as CBD itself. Science does show that CBD-Acid might possibly be more effective to treat nausea and vomiting, headaches and dizziness, and lastly inflammation; compared to CBD as we know it.
Decarboxylation of CBD-A > CBD
CBD-A can easily transform into CBD due to a process called decarboxylation. This phenomenon happens when the plant material is dried - or when heat is applied - during the extraction or production phase. During this natural chemical reaction, a so-called carboxyl group is removed from the acid molecule; which causes a bit of carbon dioxide (CO2) to be released. In the case of Cannabidiolic-acid, the molecular structure that remains after decarboxylation is the neutral form of CBD; ‘Cannabidiol’ as found in most of our hemp products.
Obviously, it takes quite a while for CBDA to decarboxylate and turn into CBD naturally. It arguably takes several years for Cannabidiolic-acid to naturally lose the carboxyl and turn into Cannabidiol completely. Though there are a few ways to speed up the process and help CBDA decarboxylate faster when needed.
If you want to decarboxylate CBDa and turn it into CBD instantly, it can be done by applying heat to the plant material. This also happens when you smoke or vape CBD flowers or concentrates - or when hemp extracts are refined and/or blended at higher temperatures. Which is obviously not the case with CBD-A oil by DNH… So if you order CBD-A oil from Dutch Natural Healing, you don’t have to worry that it’ll turn into regular CBD oil anytime soon.
CBD-A oil benefits
However, CBD-A oil is not immediately bottled after the cannabinoid is extracted from the plants. If it was, that’d mean the product would only contain CBDa and other acidic cannabinoids. Accordingly, for us to make an effective and well-balanced CBD-A oil; we carefully blend our raw CBDA-rich hemp extract with other extracts for a rich cannabinoid profile. This way we ensure the oil contains every substance from hemp needed for the best interaction with your body's endocannabinoid system (ECS).
So besides a 50/50 content of CBD-A + CBD, we’ve ensured this full spectrum RAW hemp oil also contains cannabinoids as CBG, CBN and CBC. In addition, CBD-A oil 8% includes plant-natural terpenes. These give the oil a more pleasant taste and fully support the product’s entourage effect. In conclusion, we’re bringing back the traditional hemp oil with this CBD-A oil. An improved formula of the first CBD(a) product we ever launched, many years ago. After all, we believe this is exactly how nature intended the plant to be!
