CBD oil is known to offer a wide array of possible benefits on our well-being. One of the most prominent is the way in which CBD oil is believed to help treat (chronic) pain issues. Though the plant’s substance appears to work very different from other supplements or medication used to treat pain. And it’s certainly not to be confused with any ordinary painkiller. So, how could CBD help treat pain and how could it help you?

CBD oil to treat pain?

While most painkillers are meant to just numb (damaged) nerves or otherwise sedate the body in case of pain; CBD oil appears to work very differently. Cannabidiol (CBD) - the main ingredient in CBD oil - therefor does not function as an acute painkiller in the way pharmaceutical painkillers like opiates do. In fact, CBD mostly works on treating the cause of the pain - instead of only taking away the sensation of it.

This doesn’t mean that CBD does not act as a painkiller at all. In fact, Cannabidiol slows down the ratio in which your body breaks down endocannabinoids like serotonine, anandamide and 2-AG. These are important neurotransmitters which are responsible for our happiness. But they’re also responsible for the way we perceive pain. By increasing the level of these body’s own cannabinoids in the blood, CBD oil could lightly ease the sensation of pain. While it also works on treating the cause of it, in many cases.

Moreover, the best thing about it is that it is completely safe and there is no way to overdose on CBD. In contrast to many pharmaceutical meds, which can cause serious harm when abused.

CBD and inflammation

One of the causes for pain which CBD could help treat, is inflammation. As it is proven that Cannabidiol has strong anti-inflammatory qualities. Considering many (chronic) pain issues stem from inflammatory problems, it is believed hemp’s best known compound is helpful in treating a variety of painful diseases. Like rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic ailments, for example.

Another way CBD oil could help treat chronic pain issues, is by helping to calm the immune system in auto-immune diseases. And very effectively so, too. As the receptors of the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) that CBD interacts with, exist in high concentrations in immune-cells. Actively helping to regulate the immune-response in case it overreacts - which is often the cause of auto-immune disease.

Nerve damage and CBD

As science shows, CBD could also be a potential treatment for pain caused by nerve damage. In fact, Cannabidiol is one of the few neuro-regenerating compounds in the world. Meaning it can protect and restore damaged nerves - caused by accidents, hernia’s or other injuries and oxidative stress. Besides, CBD helps to relax tense muscles and sinews; which can also help to treat pain in case it is caused by tensity.

While the first thing that comes to mind when you think about CBD, is CBD oil; it isn’t the only cannabinoid product that could help treat pain problems. By using CBD patches for example, you can target painful areas locally and treat you body directly where it hurts. As the locally applied CBD travels through the skin to treat the affected area; and from there it makes its way to your bloodstream. So the whole body ends up benefitting from the CBD applied.
